In L'occupation des sols by Jean Echenoz and Nel Museo de Reims by Daniele del Giudice, two short texts published in 1998, image is promoted to the rank of a sacred object, while the story depicts its dramatic disappearance, as if the power of image made its destruction all but more necessary for the characters to become alive and the tale to be written. The foregrounding of images whose inner force the text seeks to preserve permits a new knowledge of a space beyond the image, in which the visible and the invisible come into balance and the image can be inscribed in time.
