摘要：

The problem of reverse engineering (RE) is defied. Potential applications of the RE process in various areas of mechanical engineering are described. The issues that must be resolved to obtain an integrated compurer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing/RE system are identified. A prototype was developed to demonstrate the feasibility of such a system and results are presented for a simple object.
