SUBFASCIAL LIGATION OF THE PERFORATOR VEINS (LINTONS OPERATION) FOR THE TREATMENT OF INSUFFICIENT PERFORATORS OF THE LOWER-EXTREMITIES

Subfascial ligation of perforator veins (Linton''s operation) was performed on 108 patients. Indications for operation were posthrombotic syndrome in 28, circulatory insufficiency in 31 and ulcers of the leg in 49. Diagnosis was based on clinical examination. Phlebography was used to establish deep venous insufficiency. No serious complications ensued postoperatively. Wound complications occurred in 3% and ulcer recurred in 10% of patients presenting such ulcers. Working capacity improved postoperatively in 72% of the patients and 90% of the patients had satisfactory results. Subfascial surgery can be recommended and widening of its use is indicated.
