Psychic functioning is interpretive and every neurosis is an interpretation. In classical treatments, interpretation emerged at the point of contact of two interpretations. But what happens to the model of interpretation when its function is no longer to surprise or to reveal but to revive and to support, or even to reinforce an inadequate repression. Can the psychic functioning of the psychoanalyst restore interpreting capacities to the patient ? And should such work be qualified as interpretation ?
