THE ROLE OF ION MOMENTUM IN STIMULATED RAMAN-SCATTERING

摘要
A systematic study is made of momentum conservation in stimulated Raman scattering. The time-averaged light-wave momentum is carried by the electromagnetic field, as is well known. However, in cold electron-ion plasma, none of the time-averaged Langmuir-wave momentum is carried by the electric field or by the electrons; and ion drift is established which carries the Langmuir-wave momentum. This drift Doppler shifts the Langmuir-wave frequency by a small amount, but does not hinder the development of stimulated Raman scattering.
