EDUCATIONAL AND VOCATIONAL COUNSELING AND GUIDANCE IN GREECE PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE

This paper deals with Guidance and Counseling (G&C) in Greece. Although the title terms are more generically used, main emphasis is placed on Educational and Career Counseling and Guidance. Also, the implementation of G&C in more organized forms and settings is touched rather than in less formal areas. First a brief reference to the aims and structure of G&C is made, while some basic positions are taken. Then the evolution of G&C in Greece is traced from ancient times to the present. A description of the various areas of G&C application follows, while an evaluation of the up to date experience is attempted. Finally, some thoughts on the perspectives for future development of G&C in Greece are briefly outlined.
