Research on reading as a teaching strategy corroborate that is difficult for teachers to understand the substance of their work to guide their students in the proper use of skills that allow interpret and understand written texts. However, possibly the systematic and thorough studies on using reading in teaching the subjects performed the above task will become very activity of the nature of any material; enabling and encouraging teachers to guide their students to the world of reading. Starting from the above, sought to determine how university teachers use reading in teaching their subject, showing what happened during the classroom observations in a course of a subject of the Degree in Preschool and another of a subject of the Bachelor in Physics from the University of Los Andes. The results showed themselves in the course of the Degree in Preschool, even having to overcome the lack of commitment of students to the reading, the teacher develops similar experiences to the seminar, contributing in some way, with the use of reading as a strategy teaching in their subject. By contrast, in the course of the Degree in Physics teacher practice this shows no signs of use reading resource in teaching their subject. So, use or academic reading mark a gap between knowing or ignoring the very discourse of each subject.
