摘要
Ferricyanide reduction on a platinum line electrode is used to measure mass-transfer rates in the presence of a periodic fluid flow. The line electrode is flush mounted on an insulating plate that is oscillating in its own plane. The dimensionless mass-transfer rate depends on two parameters: a Peclet number and a dimensionless oscillation frequency. Using measured values of the ferricyanide diffusion coefficient and the electrolyte's kinematic viscosity, previously published finite-volume simulations are used to predict the temporal variation of the area average of the mass-transfer rate. A fluid flow generated by an infinite plate is assumed in the numerical calculations. Experimental and numerical results are in agreement, not only the validity of the simulations but also that the fluid flow in the experimental cell is close to that which assumed.
