摘要
Hip fractures are a serious health problem all over the world with grave consequences for the people and health systems involved. Osteoporosis and sideways falls and the force this involves in the hip area are the main cause for hip fractures. Hip protectors have been developed to prevent hip fractures, which are caused by falls. Biomechanical studies have shown their effectiveness, but compliance is low. Nevertheless, compliance can be raised by providing information on the dangers of hip fractures and the significance that hip protectors have to prevent this, as well as improving the design and mechanical properties of individual hip protectors. That is why clinical studies have produced controversial results. Future studies on hip protectors with a patient friendly design will clarify the situation. We present a review on the current situation and some future aspects.
