The question about the hypothesis of human individuation, the right moral judgment and the practical act are recurrent in the field of philosophy and education theory. From this perspective, we present in this paper some theoretical contributions of George Herbert Mead, a little known author in the Brazilian academic circles. For this reason, we have taken as an analysis horizon the following question: How is the formation of the self understood in the theory of G. H. Mead? And what is its correlation to ethics? We are going to see that the process of formation of the 'I", while self, leads to the social individuation, according to this author. The emergency of an individual identity is only possible through the interaction and effective participation in the life of the community. In this same sense, the configuration of the capacity of practical judgment means to consider the insertion of the person in a formation process which guarantees him/her the competence, by emitting a value judgment, to take into consideration the interest of people involved in the question.
