TRANSVERSE RELAXATION IN SPIN-POLARIZED HE-3 GAS DUE TO DC AND AC MAGNETIC-FIELD GRADIENTS

摘要
It is well known that in the presence of a magnetic-field gradient an increase in the transverse relaxation rate will occur in a spin-polarized gas sample. Recent theories related to diffusion through magnetic-field gradients have been applied to spherical and cylindrical gas cells in helium and alkali-metal-atom systems. A simple first-order theory based on the Redfield model is extended to include oscillating gradients in spherical and cylindrical gas sample cells. Experimental gradient measurements are made using a He-3 free-precession magnetometer. The experimental results are in agreement with the theory.
