摘要
The article focuses upon the need for professional leadership in educational institutions. Professional leadership is classified here as an amalgam of leadership which is professional in its quality, and recognises fully the requirements demanded of leading professional staff. It combines both ‘leading professional’ and ‘chief executive’ roles. After classifying schools as professional bureaucracies, the problems of providing such leadership in these organisations are considered; problems exaggerated by a rapidly changing climate. After establishing the need for professional leadership the problems of training the appropriate personnel are then considered in detail. Ways in which a variety of training experiences might be structured to accelerate learning are studied, and these are then constructed around two learning cycles. © 1990, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
