摘要：

This paper summarises the current situation in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) countries in terms of energy and electricity consumption, local energy reserves and resources, the economic, political and environmental situation, and the opportunities for stronger regional energy integration. It also projects the future role of nuclear energy in the region in terms of how different external factors (oil prices, CO2 emission restrictions, and the possibility of a severe accident or a terrorist attack at a nuclear facility) might bring about a more intensive use of nuclear energy.
