摘要
The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) is a fusion device with the objective of demonstrating controlled ignition and an extended burn for a duration sufficient to achieve stationary conditions (about 1000s). It will also demonstrate the availability of the technology required for a fusion reactor as well as define and test reactor components. The superconducting coils for the system will require about 1600 tonnes of Nb3Sn strand and will be the largest ever built. The cryoplant for the system will need to provide about 110 kW at 4.5 K. Features of the magnet designs and of the RandD program that is underway are described.
