ON THE EFFECT OF BASICITY ON THE KINETICS OF CO2 ABSORPTION IN TERTIARY-AMINES

摘要
The effect of basicity, as measured by pK(a), on the reaction between CO2 and tertiary amines in aqueous solution has been investigated in this work. Four tertiary amines (triethanolamine, methyldiethanolamine, diethylethanolamine and triethylamine) with pK(a) varying between 7.8 and 10.8 were studied at 25-degrees-C. It was found that the second-order kinetic rate constant increases with increasing basicity. The data were well correlated by k2 = 1.60 x 10(-3) exp (0.983 pK(a)) 1/g mol s.
