摘要
Present research on x-ray lasers is following two primary paths: achieving lasing at shorter wavelengths and increasing efficiency without sacrificing gain. This overview of recent work details a number of lasing schemes that are under investigation at laboratories across the nation. And, although the devices are some distance from the bridge between theory and commercial reality, some promising applications are on the horizon, including microscopy and holography.
