IRREVERSIBLE TOXIC EFFECTS OF CYCLOHEXIMIDE ON MITOTIC-ACTIVITY AND DIFFERENTIATION IN ROOT APICES OF ALLIUM-CEPA L

摘要
Roots of Allium cepa L. were treated with water solution of cycloheximide (25 mg.l-1) for 24 and 48 h. After the treatment the roots were cultured in water for further 48 h and the restoration of influenced processes was observed. The antibiotic strongly inhibited the cell division, caused chromosomal and mitotic abnormalities, and disordered the primary meristem differentiation. These toxic effects of cycloheximide were irreversible.
