AN ACTIVATING EFFECT OF PHENOLIC-COMPOUNDS ON THE BIOCONVERSION OF A LIGNIN MODEL-COMPOUND INTO ITS XYLOSIDE BY CORIOLUS-VERSICOLOR

摘要
A lignin model compound, veratryl alcohol, was bioconverted into veratryl 8- D -xyloside (VE-Xyl) in a glucose medium that was inoculated with Coriolus versicolor (L: Fr) Quel. When various phenolic lignin model compounds, guaiacol, 4-methylguaiacol, methylsyringol, syringyl alcohol, 1- (4 -hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1-propanol, or 1-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxy-phenyl)-2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1-propanol, were added to the culture, the formation of VE-Xyl was stimulated, whereas little activating effects of non-phenolic compounds, 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl alcohol and acetoveratrone, on xyloside-formation activity were observed. Guaiacol had the best stimulating effect of all the tested model compounds.
