摘要
A group of Japanese macaques is housed in a two-acre enclosure. A year of observations on the social behaviour of the troop has revealed a typical hierarchy maintained by a system of kinship and amikinship relationships as well as the physical prowess of the monkeys. The spatial pattern typical of free-ranging troops has broken down in the corral and the function of the troop’s leader seems to have been reduced. © 1969 S. Karger AG, Basel.
