TEMPERATURE-DEPENDENT ISOMER SHIFT AND ANHARMONIC BINDING OF SN119 IN NB3SN FROM MOSSBAUER-EFFECT MEASUREMENTS

We have studied the temperature dependence of the Mössbauer recoil-free fraction and the line shift of Sn119 in several Nb3Sn absorbers between 4 and 375°K. The recoil-free fraction measurements show that the forces on the tin atoms are highly anharmonic. The line-shift measurements are interpreted in terms of a temperature-dependent electron density at the tin nucleus, which is shown to support previous suggestions of a very narrow d band near the Fermi level. © 1968 The American Physical Society.
