HEMODIALYSIS IN THE DOG - A LITERATURE-REVIEW

Haemodialysis is frequently used in human medicine as a treatment to replace kidney function. However, this technique of extra-renal purification plays only a small part among the techniques used to combat kidney failure in veterinary medicine. It is interesting to study the various methods used in canine haemodialysis compared with the procedures used in man. This article presents the theory of haemodialysis, the equipment necessary, the methods needed to implement the technique and possible complications. It also includes a review of the different studies using the dog.
