The vast majority of accidents due to cardiotonic heterosides in carnivores result from intoxication by sciliorisde (used as a rat poison). The prognosis depends not ongly on the quantity ingested, but also on the application of an appropriate therapeutic treatment. Treatment is designed to evacuate the toxin and to treat the symptoms by correcting the hydro electrolytic disorders and cardiac problems (bradycardia, arrhythmia, etc.). It is tgherfore vital to monitor the electrocardiogram of the patient.
