GENETIC-DIVERGENCE IN GENOTYPES OF PIGEON PEA

Fifty-four genotypes of pigeon pea were characterized in Petrolina, PE, Brazil. Nine quantitave characters of bigger agronomic interest were used for determination of the genetic distance and identification of similar groups among the genotypes. The techniques utilized were: 1. cluster analysis using the euclidian distance of the original standardized data and the cluster Tocher method; and 2. graphic dispersion in relation to the first principal components. The grain genotypes ICPL 6, ICP 6971; the forage genotypes D1 type, D3 type and ICP 6970; and the forage/grain genotype D2 type are recommended for use in breeding programs, considering not only their genetic distance but also their agronomic performance.
