ACTINOMYCIN-D - DISRUPTION OF THE MITOTIC GRADIENT IN THE CLEAVAGE STAGES OF THE SEA-URCHIN EMBRYO

摘要
When embryos of Paracentrotus lividus are actinomycin D treated immediately after fertilization, the vegetal-animal mitotic gradient is completely disrupted. On the other hand, if the treatment is started at or after the 16-cell stage (i.e., after the segregation of the micromeres), the mitotic gradient is not affected. The hypothesis is advanced that actinomycin D inhibits a transcriptional event in the micromeres which regulates the synchronization of the cell divisions in the early cleavage stages. © 1979.
