摘要
Hydrogen permeation rate (HPR) through a 35-mu m thick iron membrane was studied with the electrochemical technique in 0.1M NaOH during cathodic and anodic polarisation at 25 degrees C. It was found that low anodic polarisation or cathodic reduction of anodic products increases hydrogen entry into iron. The increase was explained by an acidification at the metal surface due to the hydrolysis of anodic products, or due to cathodic reduction of oxides. The local acidification is probably favoured by layers of corrosion products which can hinder diffusion of H+ and OH- to and from the metal surface.
