Ethanol-chlorobenzene (ECB) dosimetry system is a family of liquid chemical dosimeters which is suitable as reference standard, as well as a routine dosimeter in radiation processing. By varying the concentration of chlorobenzene in solution, dosimeter formulations with energy absorption characteristics matching the energy absorption characteristics of various irradiated materials over a broad spectrum of energy can be made. The values of the photon mass energy-absorption coefficients over a spectral energy range 0.01 to 20 MeV are calculated far several well characterized formulations, containing 4, 10, 20, 25 and 40 vol.% of chlorobenzene. The weighted photon mass energy-absorption coefficients for degraded spectra at different depths in water irradiated by Co-60 gamma rays are calculated for ECB dosimeters as well as for some biological tissues and plastics.
