摘要
The igniter is an indispensable part of a rocket propulsion system in which a boron/potassium nitrate-based pyrotechnic composition is commonly employed. In this study, the effect of aluminum dodecaboride (AlB12), has been investigated by sequentially replacing 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of boron with AlB12 in the boron/potassium nitrate/plasticized ethyl cellulose igniter composition. The composition having 50% boron replaced with AlB12 exhibited enhanced calorimetric value and flame temperature. The composition also exhibited 21% and 8% reduction in rise time and ignition delay, respectively. Furthermore, the replacement of boron by AlB12 does not reduce the impact, friction, and spark sensitivities, which make it a potential fuel for future igniter compositions.
