QUANTITATIVE ESTIMATIONS OF DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE ANDROSTERONE ETIOCHOLANOLONE ESTROGENS AND TESTOSTERONE IN BLOOD PLASMA AND SKIN ELUATS IN ACNE VULGARIS

In male and female patients with acne vulgaris quantitative estimations of dehydroepiandrosterone, androsterone, aetiocholanolone and estrogens in blood plasma and skin eluats were performed. Additionally testosterone levels in skin eluats were determined. Estrogens in blood plasma were elevated in men, diminished in women. In skin eluats there was a fall of the testosterone/estrogens quotient in men and a rise in women. Dehydroepiandrosterone levels were diminished in both sexes. The quotient dehydroepiandrosterone/testosterone showed lowered values in women. After treatment of acne patients with dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate there resulted a normalisation of dehydroepiandrosterone levels in blood plasma in men and women, the quotient testosterone/estrogens rose in men and fell in women. © 1969 Springer-Verlag.
