摘要
Intensive care units are the hospital units which the hospital acquired infections are encountered most frequently. Hospital Acquired Pneumonia (HAP) and the special form of it defined as Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is one of the leading causes of the infection related mortality in the intensive care units. This study is planned for determining the incidence of hospital acquired pneumonia, risk factors, distribution of etiologic agents and antibiotic resistance patterns at lzmir Chest Diseases and Surgery Hospital during 2003. Data was collected by analyzing the hospital infections control committee surveillance forms. Mortality of the VAP cases (64.1%) was found statistically higher than other HAP's (36%). The most often isolated agents were determined as Acinetobacter sp. (47%), S. aureus (23%), P. aeruginosa (15%). Multidrug resistance was noticed among isolated agents.
