SEASONAL-VARIATION IN FRUCTOSE AND CITRIC-ACID IN SEMINAL PLASMA OF MURCIANO-GRANADINA GOATS

摘要：

Ejaculates were collected by artificial vagina from nine, 13-month-old Murciano-Granadina bucks twice a week. Semen collection continued for 12 months. Mean (+/- SE) fructose and citric acid concentration was 792.56 (+/- 13.14) and 295.73 (+/- 5.04) mg/100 ml of semen, respectively. High concentrations (P<0.05) of fructose and citric acid were found during the summer (867.57 and 311.98 mg/100 ml of semen, respectively) and autumn (931.42 and 327.66 mg/100 ml of semen, respectively) but low values during the spring (567.95 and 249.11 mg/100 ml of semen, respectively). This seasonality may be attributed to circannual changes in day length. However, we consider that these seasonal differences do not affect semen quality, because these seminal components did not show any significant correlation with the sperm quality parameters studied (motility, sperm morphology and acrosome deterioration).
