摘要
Knowledge about the history of the Spanish language develops among myths from the down of the Renaissance. In this work we deal with the different perspectives from which this history was discussed from the time of Nebrija to Covarrubias: a) Latin origin of Spanish; b) the myth of Tubal as Iberian Peninsula's first settler, that serves as the foundation of three rival theories: Euskara, Chaldean and Castilian as Spanish first languages; c) Babel episode as explanation of the origin of linguistic multiplicity; d) Hebrew as first human language; e) the story of the deportation of Jews to Spain, at the time of Necuchadnezzar, as basis of the theory of Hebrew as main Spanish language in antiquity; and finally f) the defense of primitive Spain's linguistic plurality.
