ELASTIC AND INELASTIC SCATTERING OF 14.7 MEV NEUTRONS FROM 28SI

Differential cross sections in an angular region from 17.2°-143.2° in the lab system for both elastic and inelastic neutron scattering by 28Si have been measured at an incident energy of 14.7 MeV using the pulsed-beam time-of-flight technique. The collective 2+(Q = - 1.77 MeV) level and the weakly excited 3+(Q = - 6.27 MeV) state with non-normal parity could be resolved, while the observed peaks at 4.80 MeV and 6.88 MeV correspond to unresolved 41+, 0+ and 3-, 42+ states, respectively. The elastic-scattering data were analysed using the local optical model in its conventional form. The inelastic scattering results were interpreted with DWBA method using the collective model as well as a microscopic description based on a Gaussian effective interaction and spherical nuclear wave functions of the one-particle-one-hole model. © 1969.
