2 experiments studied the relative effectiveness of visual and auditory stimulation in eliciting attachment responses in 214 newly hatched bobwhite quail. Ss more readily showed an attachment response to a combined visual and auditory stimulus than to the visual stimulus alone. Ss also showed differential degrees of attachment to the original imprinting stimulus as compared to variations of the original stimulus. The original auditory stimulus is more crucial than the original visual stimulus in eliciting attachment responses to test stimuli.
