摘要
The newly developed ASAM process which at present is being tested in pilot scale was applied to different annual plants and hardwoods. Compared to soda reference cookings, ASAM pulping of annual plants, such as wheat straw, elephant grass, and sorghum bagasse, results in higher yields and better delignification. Elephant grass is especially suited for pulping purposes. ASAM elephant grass pulp almost reaches hardwood pulp quality. Among the tested hardwoods, poplar deserves special attention when the alternative utilization of agriculture land is discussed. Poplar species are easy to delignify and result in high pulp yields. ASAM poplar pulps show excellent strength properties and are easily bleached using exclusively chlorine-free chemicals. Also the other ASAM hardwood pulps, as well as the non-wood pulps, were chlorine-free bleached to acceptable brightness.
