REGULATION OF NITRATE REDUCTION IN WHEAT AND RICE LEAVES BY OXYGEN AND NADH SUPPLY

摘要
Under strictly anaerobic conditions a major portion of endogenous nitrate was reduced in wheat and rice leaves. Propanol had no effect under these conditions but it stimulated nitrate production in a partially-anaerobic environment. Generation of NADH via the citric acid cycle and the prevention of its oxidation by O2 appear to be the factors which regulate nitrate reduction. Thus in the presence of sufficient reductant energy most of the nitrate normally present in the leaves is available for reduction. © 1979.
