Osteoporosis and Fractures in Primary Malign Bone Tumours

Due to higher survival rates and the increasing life expectancy for patients with primary and secondary skeletal tumours, skeletal complications such as osteoporotic and pathological fractures pose a drastic reduction in the quality of life at an early age. Tumour-and therapy-induced osteoporotic fractures occur by definition at predestined places on the osteoporotic skeleton. While skeletal complications of secondary bone tumours are becoming more interesting to science there is in comparison little data about osteoporosis and fractures in primary malign bone tumours, such as osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma, although there is evidence for it. A therapy or even prophylaxis of chemotherapeutically induced osteoporosis in primary malign bone tumours is a good offer.
