The Thames Water Ring Main comprises 80 km of tunnels plus eleven major underground pumping stations, and is the largest water supply tunnel system in the UK. The project was completed and commissioned in 1984, two years ahead of programme and within the 250 million Pounds budget. This Paper describes the design of shafts, tunnels, pumping stations and associated civil engineering works.
