Some fasteners were developed to join the furniture members. Although these fasteners are a lot, numerical data of these elements is so limited. In this study, physical and mechanical properties of solid wood and wood based materials (composite) and performance properties of T-type joints were investigated. Scoth pine (Pinus sylvestris Lipsky) and beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) were used as solid wood, particleboard, veneered particleboard, oriented strand board (OSB), werzalit, impragnated paper veneered particleboard (chipboard), medium density of fiber board (MDF) and okoume (Aucoumea klaineana) plywood were used as wood composites in the tests. Test specimens for joints were prepared by utilizing cam fitting (blum), trapezium, minifix, metal screws as mechanic fasteners and dowel as wood fastener. One fastener was used for each joint technique fort he specimens. Tests were performed under static loads according to ASTM-D 1037 standard. This study has included technical information about furniture strength for furniture designers and manufacturers.
