OPTICAL-ABSORPTION, INFRARED AND DIFFERENTIAL THERMAL-ANALYSIS STUDIES OF BOROTELLURITE GLASS CONTAINING NICKEL

摘要
Optical absorption, infrared, differential thermal analysis (DTA) and density studies were conducted on the glass system (80-x)TeO2-xNiO-20B2O3, where x = 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 mol%. It was found that Ni is in the divalent state and is octahedrally coordinated in all the compositions studied. This was confirmed by infrared spectra. DTA measurements revealed that the addition of NiO2 causes an improvement in the glass formation ability. The density of the glass investigated was found to decrease with increasing nickel oxide content.
