2 POLYMERIC MICELLAR FIBERS WITH GLUCONAMIDE HEAD GROUPS

Poly-L-lysine was converted to a comb-shaped amphiphile with dodecylgluconamide side chains. These micellar molecules could be directly observed by electron microscopy. They formed fibrous aggregates. N-octylgluconamide is known to aggregate to form double-helical fibers with very high length: width ratios (approximately 10(4):1). It was converted to a monomethacrylate in the head group-which polymerized upon UV-irradiation in DMSO / water emissions, but not in DMSO alone. Micellar polymers are of interest in the construction of complex reaction systems.
