摘要
Acute maxillary osteomyelitis in infants is a rare, infective condition that can spread rapidly to involve the eye, nasal and oral cavities and can cause serious sequelae or even death. It is often misdiagnosed as other infective conditions leading to the delay in establishing the correct diagnosis and administering treatment. The most common causative organism is Staphylococcus aureus. It is vital that acute maxillary osteomyelitis be rapidly and correctly diagnosed and treated early which will lead to complete resolution of the condition without the dreaded complications. We report a case of a 4-month-old infant with acute maxillary osteomyelitis with orbital involvement. (C) 2014 Asian AOMS, ASOMP, JSOP, JSOMS, JSOM, and JAMI. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
