The medical expert plays a decisive role in the context of the German statutory accident insurance. This article gives an overview of the legal basis of the medical assessment, especially with regard to differentiating among extensive medical reports and short reports by consulting physicians, providing an expert opinion, and accounting for current scientific findings.
