MCKITTRICK AND WHEELOCK SYNDROME - REPORT OF A CASE

A 78 years old male patient with diarrhea, hyponatremia and hypokalemia caused by a gigantic rectal villous adenoma is presented. A Chagas megacolon was also found. The patient was operated, finding an vast soft polypoid lesion that occupied all the rectum and inferior sigmoid colon, a megarectum and megasigmoid. A very low rectosigmoidectomy with closure of the rectal stump and colostomy (Hartmann procedure) was performed Postoperative evolution was good except for the formation of a pelvic abscess that drained spontaneously through the anus. The patient is asymptomatic after 3 years follow up.
