During the castration of bitches, the cervicovaginal stump was anchored to the prepubic tendon after removal of ovaries and uterus using 1 to 2 sutures. As the urethra is connected with the vagina the bladder neck and the proximal urethra, respectively, are fixed cranially by this technique. This method should minimize the risk of the urinary incontinence due to spaying of the bitch. The surgical technique was used in 21 bitches on the occasion of castration during the last 2.5 years. None of the bitches showed urinary incontinence in connection with spaying until now.
