By treatment with dihydrosilanes at 150-degrees-C a diruthenium carbonyl complex Ru2(C5H5)2(mu-CO)2(CO)2 is sequentially transformed into a mu-methylene complex Ru2(C5H5)2(mu-CH2)(mu-CO)(CO)2 and a di(mu-methylene) complex Ru2(C5H5)2-(mu-CH2)2(CO)2.
