摘要
To achieve the successful introduction of B-ISDN at an early stage, it is necessary not only for it to meet the requirements of the first target, business use, but also for it to support future services. This concept was the basis of the VP-based access network architecture wherein service-dedicated VP's are multiplexed using subscriber lines and the user-network interface (UNI). To realize an economical and flexible network based on this architecture, the functions of the subscriber line terminal (SLT) are very important. The main SLT functions include demultiplexing and distributing service-dedicated VP's, cell multiplexing, and the termination of subscriber tines. This paper proposes that the SLT should have the capability to accommodate both star and passive double star access networks in the future. To achieve these goals, a layered SLT system architecture in terms of OAM flow is introduced. Enhancing the operation and maintenance features of the access network is also addressed.
