THE PHENOMENON OF RELIGION IN THE THOUGHT OF MARTIN BUBER

The paper is an attempt to analyze the phenomenon of religion in the thought of Martin Buber (dagger 1965). The author comes from a fundamental distinction for Buber between religion (based on tradition, worship and institutions static relationship to God) and religiosity (living and creative reference to God in the world). Then are presented the main ideas of Buber: recognition of religion as a product of historically conditioned human activity, denial of claims of the representatives of the specific religion to exclusivism, depreciation of theology as a form of objectification of the living revelation, denial of the cognitive aspect of religion, preference of faith based on trust in God, rejection of religious law, the concept of monotheism and polytheism as a reference point in life. Buber is presented as a supporter of the non-confessional religion as the living relationship to the world and his divine foundation.
