CHARM MESON PRODUCTION IN 800 GEV/C PROTON-EMULSION INTERACTIONS

摘要
We report results on D0 and D+ production in proton-emulsion interactions at square-root s = 38.7 GeV. A fit to the form (1 - \x(F)\)n exp(-bp(T)2) yields n = 6.9(-1.8)+1.9 and b = 0.84(-0.08)+0.10 (GeV/c)-2. The total inclusive cross section, assuming linear A dependence, is measured to be 38 +/- 3 (stat.) +/- 13 (sys.) mu-b for the D0 and 38 +/- 9 +/- 14-mu-b for the D+. A comparison of these results with previous measurements indicates that nuclear effects do not strongly influence charm production. The predictions of QCD are in good agreement with our data.
