PHASE-DEPENDENT INTERACTION OF WIDELY SEPARATED SPATIAL-FREQUENCIES IN PATTERN-DISCRIMINATION

摘要
Spatial frequencies separated by a factor of 3 (5 and 15 c/deg) interact in a phase-dependent way in producing just-detectable changes in a 10 c/deg suprathreshold grating. Our data are inconsistent with models in which this broadband response is derived from interactions among the outputs of narrowband mechanisms. Instead, broadband mechanisms must exist in parallel with narrowband mechanisms. © 1979.
