摘要
The much hyped concept of virtual reality (VR) is becoming talked about in tourism circles: as a possible threat to the travel industry, as a means of reducing the negative impacts of tourism and as a marketing tool to increase a destination's appeal, But how far can VR technology actually deliver the kind of experiences promised - or will it be able to do so in future? In this mini-highlight two articles address the subject, The first suggests how 'tourists' might travel with VR, and developers use it in the planning process, seeing VR as a logical progression in the use of technology in tourism, The second takes a more sceptical view of the capabilities of VR, Both, however, agree that its importance is likely to increase.
